My mom is scheduled for an appt with the Mayo Clinic in Jacksonville, FL on 1-28-08   She has inoperable cholangiocarcinoma that has gone to her lymph nodes and liver already.  Two stents were successfully placed last week in Albany, GA and the jaundice & itching are gone!  Her bilirubin was 18 and is down to 4.5 now!  We continue to pray for a miracle.  We were told 4-6 months is her life expectancy.  Does anyone know anything about Dr. George Kim at the Mayo?  That's who we're praying will be able to help her.

I am sorry to hear about your mothers condition.  I don't know much about that Dr. but I hear really great things about the Mayo Clinic.  They treat many people with CC.  You and your Mother will be in my prayers.

Don't just pray for a miracle, Expect one!

Christina

Hi Jamie,

This is Leonard, I didn't see this message before I responded to your January 11 message.

Glad to hear about the appointment at the Mayo Clinic.  Okay, the situation sounds bad, but it's not surprising. It all depends on the doctor and how he intends to handle the surgery...hopefully surgery is an option. The bilirubin count (18) is very, very high...even 4.5 is high.  My wife just prior to surgery had a 5.2 count and they moved ASAP to handle the issue. They gave her 6 to 8 weeks is surgery was not an option.  Karen did not have it in the liver but it was in the biliary tree as well as 3 lymph nodes. I don't know anything about Dr. George Kim at Mayo, but I'm sure if he practices at Mayo he has good credentials...I will look him up and get back to you.

Talk to you later...Leonard from Alamo, CA

Hi Again Jamie,

Go to Google and type in Doctor George P. Kim Mayo Clinic.

You will get a complete profile.

I would just like to pass on this information regarding surgery and the doctor that did it for my wife...The doctor at UCSF is Doctor Ryo Hirose...he is not an Oncologist he is a Professor of Surgery  Transplantation and General Surgery.  He specializes in Liver Transplant surgery. If surgery is an option you want a very good liver surgeon at the helm.   My wife also has an Oncologist to monitor her on going progress.

Dear Jamie,

I am so sorry to hear about your mom. My sister was also diagnosed with inoperable cholangiocarcinoma earlier this month (January 08). I called Mayo and talked with some very nice folks there and have heard so much good about their research, diagnostics and treatments for cancer.

Please do keep me informed as to anything you learn that is helpful to you and your mom. I, too, will share any info we receive.

I am sure that your mom will want for you to share what time you can with her, and she will want to know that you will be okay..that is always a mother's wish for her children. A greater pain for a mother is that her circumstances cause you pain or distress. Remain faith-filled.

Blessings and Prayers to you, your mom and your family.

My sister's voice,

eaglessoar
