Subject: 8 months after HIFU update
Date: 01/22/2008
I underwent HIFU (high intensity focused ultra sound) treatment last May, to a wonderful outcome.  At this point - 8 months after treatment I register a .08 on the PSA and my urologist has said that the prostate gland is hard to find with the digital rectal exam I guess it has shrunk considerably...  No problems in the continence area and the sexual function is operational although spontaneous erections are a thing of the past, I have the ability to achieve an erection with direct stimulation and of course there is no seminal fluid on climax just the feeling and spasm but no fluid, and subsequently no mess either. ;)

What was your gleason or stage. I am a psa 20.2, a gleason 8 and stage t2a and will begin imrt [intensity modulated radiation therapy] with gold seed implants for better location, beginning next month. Yours was a promising story. Best of luck as the years go on.

10 dasy ago, I unbderwent a hemiablarion by Dr. Emberyon in the UK.

All systenms are full functional.

Will have to wait for the consecutive PSA tests in 3, 6 months to ensure I am clean.

So far evry happy with the decision to do it.

A Droctir that joned me t owathc the procedure was so overwhe, med that he said that in his view this (hemi/focal) HIFU is A revolution.

someone asked me for more details, i wrote it all and now i can not find the request and my reply.

if you are still looking for it, please reply to this message.

Basically I said that my hemiablation went so well becasue it was focal, far away from the uretra, the right seminal vescile was destroyed but the left was untouched, hence no impact on urination and could sex in 10 days.

hemiablation is in a clnical test:

here is an article re; focal therapy (HIFU hemi ablation is one of several) http://www.nature.com/ncponc/journal/v4/n11/full/ncponc0959.

here is teh link to th eHIFU clinical research in teh UK:

http://www.prostateuk.org/research/reports/R200601-05-ahme-2 you are a UK citizen, you may want to join, else, if you wish to undergo it privetly , please drop a line to dr. emberton memberton@dial.pipex.com  this will cost you aroud GBP 20,000.

hope it helps

good luck,

moni
