Subject: Symptoms after chemo and radiation
Date: 01/22/2008

I had a squamous cell tumor on my base of my tongue and also had

cancer in my lymph glands.  I completed chemo and radiation in July

2007.  I am now having excess calcium in my blood and urine.  I was

wondering if it could be from the chemo treatment.  I would like to know

if this has happened to anyone else after chemo.

Thank You,

Karla K.

Hi Karla,

Excess calcium in the blood can be a symptom of many things. One of them is bone mets, which doesn't happen that often with SCC but should be checked out.I think there are parathyroid considerations also. Either way it is something that you should be pursuing with your Oncologist if you aren't already.

Good luck and let us know how you make out.

Hi

Sorry I cant help with actual symptoms after chemo etc.

I do hope you are recovering well.

I do know that Calcium is made by the Parathyroid gland (part of/next to thyroid gland) and when not functioning properly can make too much calcium.

My aunt has too much calcium due to this & has to avoid all dairy products especailly all milk..even soya, goats etc. She is tested regular to make sure it doesnt get out of control.

Ask your doc to explain what is making you have too much Calcium.

I wish you well and hope you find out why this has happened to you

Jen
