My mother has been a breast cancer survivor for 8yrs.  The doctors removed her breast in the process.  Recently she became ill and test showed that she has lukemia.  Today the doctors wanted to admit her into the hospital.  The doctor told her that she would have to have treatment to see if they can put her into remission and follow up with bone marrow.  He tells her that this could take her out.

Ive been strong before with the breast cancer situation.  Its getting difficult for me to stay that way for this situation.  Iam the oldest child and this is killing me.  I feel like Iam alone and I and helpless.  I wish it was I instead of her with this illness.  Help somebody please.

I am so sorry you are going through this again. As I feel the same for your mom. I am going through my own emotional struggle right now with my mom not taking anymore treatment or any alt. medicine routes. I made a huge binder of info., survivor stories, alt. medicine, clinical trials, herbs, flax seed. She is going to a big doctor appt. today and I wanted her to bring the book in to the doc. She had my sister call me and tell me she appreciates what I am doing but she just wants to live her life the way she wants to. I am devastated, sad, angry and darn right in a state of helplessness. I do not even know what to tell you and I am so sorry to tell you that. I hate this and I am sure you do also. I guess stay educated and just being there for your mom will help you and her. Nobody has the answers but my Grandma just told me the other day, "honey just pray, pray, pray and God will tell you what to do". Thats all I have left. And thats what I do. I try to live each day one at a time. At the end of the night if the day went ok, then I guess it was a good day. I pray for strength and I thank God for the breaths we take each day,and I pray for tommorrow. I hope everything goes well TODAY. Dani

For good information about leukemia (traditional and alternative approaches) see the LEF site:

I know exactly how you feel, I lost my mom to bladder cancer. It was the most tramatic thing ever and now I have Luekemia. Try to be strong, this might not be as difficult as the breast cancer and you have to do some research. I had to get a second opinion from MD Anderson Houston TX and received a better diagnosis. There is a lot of research happening and a lot of different types of Luekemia. Seek out the closest and best Leukemia center and make sure you have a percise diagnosis. What your Dr. said about treatment is fairly standard, but each patient is different and some do very well for long periods of time. My Luekemia is very rare at first I was told I had only seven months. Now, four months later, I am finding that I could have many good years eventhough there is no cure. So far my treatment has been mild and should not have to do anything drastic like chemo or transplant for a long while. Try not to worry this early and try to make this with as little stress on you mom as possible. Her immune system is  most likely suffering and could use as much support as possible.  Hang in there. God Bless.
