Subject: Kidney not functioning like it should
Date: 01/30/2008

Hello

My father just went for his ct-scan and they told him that his blood work showed his one kidney is not functioning like it should. So no more ct-scans with contrast. Which is ok as that is bad for the kidney anyway. However he has been taking once a month Zomenta (IV) for his bones as he has bone involvement too. I would think the doc is taking that away too as that also causes kidney issues. We will see what the scan shows when he goes back to the doc on Mon. However until then what can he do to help the kidney clean out and work better. I am concerned that if he has failure with his one kidney we are in big trouble.

Thank you for any insight.

I am certainly not an expert here but my husband has not been able to have a ct with contrast since last summer and I don't think this is too unusual.  It all depends on certain levels and once they dip below the accepted level they will not use the contrast.  I have ask a few questions and no one seems overly concerned.  My husband is doing good and has no problems that we are aware of.  This is something you should discuss with your doctor though to relieve any anxiety on your part.

Ginny,

Thank you for your insight. I have had contact with my fathers doctor. See I am in NY and he is at the moment in FL. I usually go with him to his appts. Howvever during the winter months I do not. I have spoke with his doctor there a few times and he is pretty good about getting back to me with my concerns. I have never met this doctor only spoke to him over the phone.

I know that my father also is thinking that hes getting where there isnt much more that can be done. I wish he wouldnt think like that. I truly wish there was something I could do for him.

My parents 40th wedding anniversary is approaching soon and they will still be in Fl at that time. I would like it to be special but I am kinda stuck. I hope that your husband continues doing well. What kind of treatment is he on and for how long ? Dad has been on Sutent with some changes to the dose for about 16 months. We will see on Monday how his scan turned out. Keeping my fingers crossed.

Thanks again.
