Hi my husband was diagonised in Sept/07 had thirteen weeks of chemo and did at first have a good response to the chemo but two weeks ago the tumor markings had gone up and they told us to go home and get our affairs in order. His feet and legs are quite swollen and I am told it's low protein levels but he is eating good has ensure or protein drink everyday still can't bring swelling down. Does anyone have a suggestion. The doc said nutrition only and won't give us anything else.

Hey,

While undergoing treatment, my mother was given certain pancreatic enzymes to take with her food and help with digestion and absorption, even though she was eating well. You may want to ask about those.  Also, have you looked into any clinical trials?

You might want to try a web site that offers some natural "cures".  there is something called glaviola a supplement from a tree from South America.  I saw it on Health Sciences Institute.  I lost my father to pancreatic cancer.  I would have tried anything.  He wouldn't.  Maybe this will work in conjunction with regular methods.  There was an article from a patient of a Dr. Gail Bender, who is located in Minneapolis, MN.  It explained how some very aggresive conventional therapies beat this horrible disease.  The article was in Self magazine Dec. 07.  I hope this helps.

How is your husband doing now? My husband was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer November 26,2007. He is just now having his 6th chemo treatment. He was 235 and now weighs 160. He is eating but not much. He has had some swelling but not bad as of yet. I am sure they told you to elevate his feet. I am so sorry for what you and I are going through. This is a never ending nightmare. My husband is 59 and we have been married 40 years in August. I am sure you are like myself in not being able to imagine your life without him.

Hello, My husband was also diagnosed with Pancreatic Cancer Oct of 2007.  We have gone through two rounds of chemo and none have had any results.  It has only spread farther.  I was wondering what I should expect to happen the more this cancer progresses.  His has spread to his liver and now to his lung.  My heart goes out to anyone having to go through this terrible ordeal. My Husband is 42 and we have two children ages 13 and 7.

Taffytwo:

Thank you so much for the info regarding Dr. Bender.  My best friend, a single mom, was given 9 mos to 1 year last August with Stage III pancreatic cancer. She lives in the Minneapolis area.  I've e-mailed the article to her and she is going to contact Dr. Bender.  Everything is always so dismal when reading about this disease.  It's the first time we've smiled in a little while.  She's had cyberknife treatment, but we don't know yet if it has done any good.

Thank you for providing us with this little ray of hope!

We were married 37 years and Don was 60. We elevated his legs the swelling they told us was low protein levels if your husband's feet are starting to swell bump up his protein, We started with ensure and I also added protein powder to mashed potatoes, anything I could I found a flavorless SOYA-PRO protein powder and would add it to anything I could. Don kept a good appetite craved chicken. We found chemo kicks the heck out of your protein levels and one of the proteins is carnitine it's found in chicken, beef steak, cheddar cheese but Don only liked the taste of chicken didn't even like the smell of beef hence we had chicken almost every night. We used aloe vera for the jaundice and it worked he wasn't itchy or nearly as yellow. My prayers are with you we did so much research on this cancer and found out so much it's incredible
