Subject: What should I expect?

Hi. I have to have the LEEP procedure done in April. I am really scared. I don't handle pain well, and I tend to pass out often. I get mixed answers when I ask people about being put to sleep during the procedure. Any advice on what I should do and how bad is the pain really?

I had my first LEEP done in November. I am 22 and never had an abnormal pap before. I see no point to being put to sleep for the procedure. It seriously takes 10 minutes and they numb you!

While I am fighting tooth and nail to avoid having to go through a LEEP, my gyn has already said that she would put me under for the surgery...

I personally would request that your doctor sedate you for the surgery

I have been put under both times.I know it's a very quick procedure, but if you can avoid the pain and the whole experience, why not?

I definately would not be put under.  For those who have been put under, they don't know what the procedure even feels like so I don't know if I would take their advice to heart.  I thought that a colposcopy was more painful than the LEEP procedure.  The numbing only takes a minute or two which is the worst part, but after that you feel nothing.  U will be able to get dressed and just have someone drive you home.  Minimal bleeding and discomfort.

It's honestly not that bad. It's just uncomfortable. It take less than 10 minutes (I was there less than 5 I think) You will get those weird cramps when they do it just like you did when you had your biopsy and mine lasted a bit  but Tylenol did the trick.

I didn't bleed right away. I had it done early in the morning and the bleeding started just before bed, it was heavy and lasted a couple hours and that was it. I had a thin brown discharge for a couple weeks.

I got myself sooooo wound up just like I bet you are and pretty much had a panic attack before going it.

I don't think I would go under if I were you. When you wake up you'll feel groggy and gross for a couple of days and that will only be from the anesthetic. It'll just be more grief.

I do get exactly how you are feeling and when I was about to go for my LEEP I was upset that going under wasn't an option for me but I'm glad I didn't ask for it cause it wasn't that bad.
