My mother was diagnosed Jan 01. Since then, she's had a autologus stem cell transplant, chemo therapy, and radiation. She's been in remission twice already but the cancer is back.

She recently started taking thalidomide and dexamethasone. She's been on it for just over a month. I've been getting very nervous b/c she seems to be losing her memory. (She literally used to call me at least 5 times a day, but now she doesn't remember my telephone number). I'm not sure if it is the thalidomide or the lesions that she has on her skull. She also has a lesion right above her eye on her eye brow bone. It's making her eyelid droop and i'm nervous that it will affect her vision.

Has anyone else experienced the same?

I meet a woman that's been living with multiple myeloma for 10 years. Keep praying .. there is hope.

Hi,

My mother was diagnosed with Multiple Myeloma in 2004. Since then she has undergone various chemotherpies and radiation. Our goal was to get to a bone marrow transplant. Finally she showed response to Velcade and was put into the transplant program. Unfortunately, she did not pass all the tests necessary to proceed with the bone marrow transplant so we are now on hold. She is currently in remission with the myeloma but if it comes back we'll be back to chemo. In the mean time, she is experiencing a lot of memory loss. She is unable remember conversations, names, bills, etc. We keep asking if there is some conncetion between any of her medications or the disease but the doctor keeps saying no. I think it has to do with the disease somehow. Please help.
