Hifu Treatment For Prostate Cancer

Can anybody out there give me information on  affordable HIFU treatment. Italy sounds very good .  Has anybody been there for this treatment and could they tell me about it.  Any other suggestions as to other countries would be welcome.

Had my Hifu in Munich last March. unfortunatelly I heard their prices and the Euro have gone up.

Have read of a few people who had HIFU in Belgium.

Stories from them and others are posted in the HIFU section of mentors experiences on the yananow website

Had a hemiablation (focal) done by Dr. Emberton in the UK. (Using SB500). My cancer was proved to be focal through an MRI and extensive biopsy. Dr. Emberton HIFUed the contaminated zone + surrounidng  cm.

The procedure took place in 1/31/2008, I could urinate all by myself the next day, no leackage from teh suprapbic catheter which was removed after 4 days (we preferred to have it in place due to my flight to Isarel), and yestedray I made sure I have also no ercetion problems, actually verified it twice :).

Still have to make sure I am clean in a flollow up procedure.

Happy with y decision to undergo this procedure, I feel like I never had a cancer.

Hello Jessica, just been looking through the website and found your message. Will look up the website you mention. In the meantime looking for a HIFU treatment in the UK. We are British living in the US and my husband has just been diagnosed with PC. He is a suitable candidate for Hifu, but we read so much conflicting information, especially on side effects and prognosis. Seems there is no data to read. Has your organisation got any viable data on follow up of the patients you treated and how well they are doing.

What is the cost of Hifu in the UK. We read it used to be on NHS but has been withdrawn.   Would welcome any information on it. We are from Surrey.

Hi Dave,

Thanks. I am back at work from almost day 1 after the procedure. An MRI scan was taken 3 days after the procedure and looked very good.  

Still have to follow up in 3 and 6 months and make sure i am 100% clean. When suggestng it to patiens, they need to be aware of teh "risk" assocaited with it's being a new procedure. I was also concerned about the extensive biopsy which could scatter cancer cells into clean areas. Dr. Emberton indicated that this i not our case and teh articale i found about it is not based on facts, but rather a "speculation".

 Indeed if I am a success story like the othres - no doubt that this is the right way to go.    

BTW, I was accompanied by Dr. Shotland from Israel who said that in his view this will revolutinize the prostate cancer "industry"

Thanks for your message. Firstly can I apologise about the delay in getting back to you, I have had problems with my emails not coming through to me.  We have plenty of information on our web site about clinical trails,statistics and data on HIFU and other prostate cancer treatments see www.ukhifu.co.uk/clinical-trials.htm
In terms of price HIFU is still available on the NHS to UK residents with a UK GP at the UCLH in London.  Alternatively private treatments start at £9,000 in the South West of the UK and up to approximately £12,500 in central London.
