i need some help or advice for my daughter.she is almost 3 years old and has had a lump on her neck right above her coller bone for almost a year now..i have took her to the doctor about it a couple of times now and all my doctor says is that it is a fat lump or a swollen gland.but it has been there too long and i am now devistated with what to do.She is not in any pain and it is not bothering her,but here is the problem..i have cancer in my family really bad from stomach, lung, breast, throat, cervical and ovarian cancer.i am really worried and i dont know what else to do..i have recently switched doctors and am currently waiting to get an appointment. The lump is about the size of a quarter and has not gotten any bigger here latly..it does not move and is very hard.If there is anyone that can help me better understand if children at her age can get cancer ..or what it might be that is growing on her neck so that when i go to the doctor i have give him some ideas about what i think it could be so i dont keep getting the run around.I would really apprieciate your help and ideas on this.thank you very much

Dana,
I know exactly what you are feeling right now, and I'm sorry you are going through this, but you really need to "try" not to worry. My daughter had a lump on her left side of her neck under her ear, and I about went crazy, ended up they did bloodwork, (which, thank the Lord!) alll came back good, but she did have an infection in her ear lobe ( where I had her ears pierced), and from what the Dr. says her lymph nodes were enlarged from fighting off the infection. My son is 4 yrs old, and ever since he has been born, you can visually see his lymph nodes on each side of his neck, especially when he turns from side to side. I have had him to all 10 Dr.'s in his group of pediatricians and a ENT specialist and they all say it is "normal", He has had lots of bloodwork too. I don't know if I am answering any of your questions, I just think you should talk to your Dr. and order bloodwork, and if you need to, check with another dr, or a ENT specialist, and don't stop until you are comfortable with what they have to say. Things don't seem to matter when we are worried about our babies, so, try not to worry. I have family with cancer also, and I think that is alot of our problem, seems once you or a family member has been struck by the awful thing, we always have that little fear in the back of our mind. Please try not to worry, and go to as many drs as you need. Let me know what the Dr has to say, and I will say a prayer for you.
