Hello,

Does anyone know what activity in kidneys and bladder mean on a bone scan result?

Thanks

I believe that you mean the black areas on the scan where the kidneys and bladder exist compared to the lighter gray areas shown by bones and the hazy shadows of other organs. The radio-graphic isotope used in the scan was in the liquid you drank shortly beforehand and is secreted by the body and will show as the dark areas of the kidneys and bladder. This is the normal appearance for the scan. It is passed from the body in usual fashion and will disappear from any subsequent scan in the next few days.

Thank you for your response.

On the written report it states that there is activity in the kidneys and the urinary bladder. There is no abnormal uptake within the appendicular skeleton.  Within the axial skeleton there is some increased uptake along the left side of the lower lumbar spine.  This is most likely degenerative based on the appearance and location.   We were just concerned that this meant cancer activity.  Thanks.

The radioisotope is excreted out of the body thru the kidneys and the urine so you would expect to have the "dye" show up in the kidneys and urinary bladder as normal excretion. Not having the dye show up would be more of a problem due to kidney failure problems.
