From what I have read and researched the general consensus is that sugar does indeed feed cancer cells. When an MRI is done the contrast solution is glucose based exactly because cancer cells do absorb sugar at a greater rate than normal cells do and therefore they light up. At least that is my lay person's take on some of the reading I have done on the subject.

Go to page 2 of this section under the thread titled alt. treatments/homeopathic remedies.  There's about 23 responses so far.  If I remember there's some talk of sugar altering the body's pH which makes tumors thrive (alkaline pH is better in starving them off).  There are ALOT of great alternative choices on it.  You have to remember MD's go off of long-term, large-scale studies that have been proven for a specific purpose (much like the FDA in the US).  If it falls outside of not having scientific evidance to prove its worthy, alot won't support it or don't commit to a solid response.  This is how medical professionals are trained. As a RN, I know this and its not necessarily a bad thing.  However, we can take control in our own healthcare.  Eating anti-oxidant rich food is good for everyone, sick or not.  A little flaxseed oil and cottage cheese never hurts.  Quality supplements in moderation can be beneficial.  Anything we can do to support healthy, normal body functions when its been insulted with such a monster is worth a try in my book.  Plus it gives control to the patient so they can feel that they are doing something worthy for themselves.  In caring for my mom, I research everything!  We don't go overboard on any one diet or supplement.  And if she wants a piece of dark chocolate every now & again, she gets it!  lol

Dear Renee,

I agree with Smilie's message and you may find a lot of Cancer dieticians and alternative treatment protocols advising not to use sugar (not processed sugars but more natural sugars from fruits, honey, etc..). We started significant changes to my wife's diet and have seen tremendous changes in her daily energy levels, reduce in symptoms, etc.. within days. I wouldn't say it's psychosomatic because my wife is trying alternative treatments / homeopathic because I am asking her to. Not necessarily because she believe in the approach. I measure treatments by results and her dietary changes are the only changes we have made.

I hope this helps.

Hi Renee

Yes sugar is bad for you. Sugar is very acidic and feeds cancer as well. Cancer thrive in acidic enviroment. If you have sugar cravings is just mean that your immune is down and the cancer is stronger then you are at this moment . So you have to change your eating ,by having more fresh organic food as possible . Juicing is a good alternative.Stay away from preservatives and processed foods.

Instead of sugar try Stevia , Agave nectar ,Honey . No more than 6 tsp of honey/ day as this one sits in the border line.

Eat lots berries and fresh fruits, like dark red grapes ,bananas. They good when you have sugar cravings.

Cancer cant survive in the alkaline body . When your pH7.4 cancer cells stop growing at pH8.5 they die .

So my advice is to stay away from sugar no matter how hard it is.

Best regards

Liz

The concept that sugar feeds cancer is not useful. Sugar feeds every cell in our bodies. Limiting or eliminating sugar from our diet will not cure cancer.  Our bodies need glucose, or simple sugar, for energy. Even if you cut every bit of sugar out of your diet, your body will make sugar from other sources, such as protein and fat. So cancer cells need sugar to grow, just like healthy cells. It helps to remember that there is nothing particular about sugar that “feeds” cancer cells any more than sugar feeds all cells in our body.  The one thing that simple sugars do is raise insulin levels which can lead to cell growth.  It is a wise idea to limit simple sugars and instead use more complex carbohydrates.  This is a good idea even if we dont have cancer.

Well we jut have to agree to disagree . All the thousands of people who saying  cane sugar and corn sugar ( you find in soft drinks) is bad for you, cant be wrong . What is causing the greatest healt problems around the world ? Sugar ! So it does more harm than good . My son has kidney failure as well, so we had to limit his sugar intake for years ,because it was not good for him. People beat cancer by changing their diet and life stile and stay cancer free . So there is solid ground to the claim ,that sugar simply wont benefit you. In the end ,we just have to educate our selfs and come to our own educated decision about it .So,all you out there research sugar vs cancer and see what you come up with.

Liz,  just a little something to support your position........

If you search the Internet using the words "cancer" and "sugar," one person's name will come up again and again: Otto Warburg, Ph.D. More than 70 years ago, Dr. Warburg won the Nobel Prize in medicine when he discovered that cancer cells require glucose (sugar) for growth. All cells have a requirement for glucose, but cancer cells consume as much as 4 to 5 times more glucose than normal, healthy cells. In fact, they're unable to multiply rapidly without it. It's simply astonishing to me that this simple knowledge hasn't become the basis for Rule One in any cancer fight: Stop eating sugar immediately.

You'd think people in the medical field would be aware of something this important!
