Is it normal that my doctor wants to proceed with a LEEP...even though my biopsy results came back normal? He said that he could clearly see the dysplasia when he applied the vinagar solution...but the TWO biopsies didn't catch anything at all...yet he still wants to proceed with the LEEP. I'm not so much worried about the pain, etc....but more so worried about the long term effects...especially in regards to fertility.

 Good Morning,

I have had 3 leep prosigers without cancer being present. I have been surviving displasia for23 years. Leeps are very normal and I dont remember any real hurting or side effects. As far as infertility, I have a beautiful little girl after 2 of the leeps. Chin up,  Leeps are the leest of your woories.   Hang in there.

                                     Some one who knows

If you are not comfortable, get a second opinion and another colposcopy. That your doctor wants to proceed with LEEP disturbs me.

As a word of caution, I am not a supporter of LEEP. Insurance companies love it because it's cheap. But take care of your body by discussing all four methods of amputation, should you require it. LEEP has a very high risk of infection. If you are concerned about carrying a pregnancy to term, consider cryosurgery or laser. But you need to go over the kind of dysplasia you have -- if you have it -- and then make an informed decision. For some women, LEEP is the best choice. However, I regret getting LEEP.
