My husband finished his chemo and radiation for oral cancer April 2006.  His blood work still shows a low immune system.  His lympocites are also low.

What are we looking at here.  He has been healthy so far and eathing balanced meals.  His weight is great and is not feeling tired.

Chemo is very hard on the immune system. It is really important that your husband get his working at an optimum level again since this is his natural defence against all disease. There are many natural products that can help with this. A naturopath or homeopathic doctor would be the best qualified to advise on this but I can tell you about just a few of the products that were recommended for me and you can research them. AHCC http://www.ahccpublishedresearch.com/wwwroot-ahcc/studies/AH AVEMAR (AVE IN THE USA) http://www.rejuvenation-science.com/avemar.html http://www.thehealthierlife.co.uk/article/3603/reduce-cancer Avemar is the new wonder-alternative cancer treatment / adjuvant therapy for boosting the immune system and fighting cancer. "Research at UCLA has demonstrated that Avemar reduces glucose flow into the cancer cells.  Cancer cells can evade NK [natural killer] cells by masking their outer membrane with a special substance that the NK cells recognize as 'normal.'  Avemar suppresses the release of this masking substance -- allowing NK cells to better target and kill the cancer cells."  Avemar's immune-stimulating ability appears to be so powerful that it can be useful in helping to restore even the most severely compromised immune systems.

Have his doctors told him that he has low immunity or just that those counts are low? Does he get sick easily and often? The reason I am asking is that even 2 years out from treatment I also have had some WBC counts that show below range but my Med Onc explained that I am not in any danger. I am creating new cells so the manufacturing mechanism is still working. He explained that the ranges can be misleading. Although I usually test low in my WBC count I don't get sick (although I'm just getting over a cold). Hopefully it will be the same for your husband but have a talk with his doctor and see what's up. You say he's feeling well so that's the important part.

Good Luck,

Joe
