Everyone is different. I can only tell you about my husbands experience. They gave him 3 to 4 months with or without treatment. He chose treatment. Stayed on treatment 6 mo. Decided he'd rather have quality of life rather than an extra 2 to 4 weeks (according to his Doctor) Had a good three months, then began to go down hill the last 3 months. Passed away 12 mo 21 days post diagnosis. That was 9 more months than he was told he would have. If you haven't been there go to the Johns Hopkins discussion board. It is very active & very helpful.

No one is ever completely certain how much time they really have but in my father's case..they told him the low end was around 3months to live.  THat those who lived to six months only 50% survived, and a year your odds were even worse.  My dad lived around 7mos after diagnosis.  He did have a few treatments of chemo but found the side effects brutal, he decided on quality of life.  After stopping chemo he died around a month later, so fast that it left our heads spinning.  It's such an individual thing really.  My dad's PC didn't spread until around four months, then it ended up in his liver. when he did the chemo it showed to be shrinking the liver tumors slightly, so it was working.  Once dad stopped chemo, within weeks his condition dramatically worsened and it eventually took his life.

Hi,

I don't think anyone can answer that question but I can tell you about my situation.  My husband was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer stage 1V on Sept. 2 2007.  They gave him 30 days to 6 months.  Well it is going on 6 months now.  I will not say we have not had problems but he is still here and we thank god everyday for that.  I just wanted to let you know in our case we have had 5 months +.  I know when he was first diagnosed all I did was cry all the time but you need to enjoy every moment you have together.  I don't know how I will survive when he is gone but I try not to think about it every moment.  This cancer is horrible!  I am so sorry for you.

Kathy

My husband was diag. Sept.2006,stage 4, mets to liver, stomach, gallblatter, lungs and suspection of bile duct cancer. They gave him 30 days initially. Then after further review,3 to 6 months with treatment. he is now heading toward 18 months. He is currently on Gemzar, taxole, xeloda! Seems to be doing fairly well! He does suffer chronic adominal pain, controled with large amounts of Oxycotins!
