Hi,
My mother is also home with hospice. I have had some of the same issues that you mention. Hospice is all about comfort care, but not anything that is considered "aggressive", meaning to me, anything that might help prolong life. My mother has been on many medications that all seem to have the same side effects: fatigue, constipation, and dry mouth. Sometimes it is difficult to know whether symptoms are caused by medications or disease. She went off six of her meds in a two week time period (the problems they were treating had cleared up) and it did make a difference. Everyone was sure that my mother had a few weeks left to live when she came home from the hospital, but we are on our third month now. We have been able to treat some of the pain with accupuncture and I think that has really helped as much as the meds. Good luck to you and your family. It is a painful process. Roz
