jadebear, i am so sorry about your news. stomach cancer can be wicked. but...there are some great stories and lots of info on this board.
all stomach cancers are different and they all react differently to treatments.
are the dr's offering up any treatment options? has your dad considered a 2nd or even then a 3rd opinion. that would be good to do. get another opinion.
my dad was diagnosed in july 07. stomch cancer w/ mets to the liver (he has about 25-30 nodes on liver), colon and lymph system. they gave him 4-6 months. they weren't in favor of chemo for him, as my dad said he wanted quality of life. but, my dad had surgery and they were able to remove all the cancer from his stomach. the tumor was in the lowest part, right where it connects w/ the colon. seems that is a cancer they can remove easily. and then he did chemo. he is still with us. and doing well. he is on a big break from the chemo as he did get very sick and weak. but we head back to the dr on march 10th for another scan and to discuss more chemo.
stay positive, keep the hope and never give up. i am not gonna lie...this cancer can be fast moving. some of the stats dr's give are right. some aren't. my dad was told that at the 10 month mark (after diagnosis) only 50% of his pt's are still with us. so the odds are just that 50-50. but, tell your dad to do all he can, there is always hope and there are treatments that work!
i will keep you and your dad in my thougths. stay strong! never give up! take care, kris
