Hi! My mother had her 5th chemo yesterday using Oxaliplatin & Gemcitabine instead of Taxol & Carbo (from her 1st to 4th chemo).  She wanted to change her chemo meds because we think that the old ones are not working for her coz her CA-125 keeps on going up and down from 2,200 then 1,900 (1st) then 1,400 (2nd), 1,900 (3rd), 1,700 (4th).

Any advice on Gemcitabine and Oxaliplatine?

We are all crossing our fingers and praying to God that these new chemo meds works for her.

My wife has a platinum resistant ovarian cancer, and the gemcitabine alone has worked better on her than anything else that they have tried. I am not familiar with the other drug. Hope that helps and gives you some hope. God Bless

hi dgt123.

Thank you. How is your wife doing?

What do you mean by "platinum-resistant ovarian cancer"?

Is she on remission after using Gemcitabine?

 Take care and God bless.

Platinum resistant means that the cancer is not put into remission with the protocol using cis platinum. My wife had a full six treatments with taxol & cis platinum and did not go into remission . for that reason, her cancer is considered platinum resistant. I think they also consider it platinum refractory or resistant if it come back within 6 months of platinum therapy. Ovarian cancer that develops resistance is not good , and that is what my wife is battling with. If you read the intro page with the new developments in ovarian cancer on cancercompass you will see that there is a lot of research being done with this problem. Review the articles since Feb 1 to current and you will see several exciting new development for this problem. I just humbly pray to God that they will be the answer for my wife and so many other women that are suffering with this condition.
