Unfortunately the mouth sores are one of the most common side effects.  I am on my third round and have had the mouth sores every time.  Please tell him to ask his doctor for the prescription mouthwashes, there are 2 of them.  They really do help.  Also I use a toothpaste called Biotene and also a mouthrinse called Biotene which has a nice minty flavor.  Good luck!

Thank you for your responding. The toothpaste and mouthwash, are they a perscription ? My husband is to the point of asking the Doctor what would be his chances if he quit taking the med. I don't think that would be a very good idea.

Thank you,

Sidekick

Sores in the mouth

1/2 teaspoon of baking soda and 1/2 teaspoon of salt in 8 oz of warm water rinsing your mouth 4-5 times a day.

I heard this helps. Not sure about the salt part though. Maybe thats to dry them out.

Good luck

The biotene isn't prescription and it helps but the prescription "magic mouthwash" works much better, it helps to numb and has antibiotics to heal Tom used to eat a lot of italian ice's it helped to sooth the sores

Please make sure they are checking his blood work as mouth sores are very much related to anemia. My husband has taken Sutent and Gemzar for almost a year and the only two times he had sores coincided with very low red blood to the point of anemia. Treated it and the sores went away...tagml

Try to wash his mouth with Kaopectate, Benadryl and Xilocayne in equals parts. Remember, only wash it every time after he brush his teeth. God Bless.
