Subject: Along the battle front...
Date: 02/12/2008

We found out my mom had inoperable pancreatic cancer May 1, 2007.  We know that we're extrememly blessed that she had been pain free until December 4, 2007 and that she is still with us this far into the battle.  My husband and I are her primary caregivers.
My question since February 3rd has been why she is vomiting so much.  She's at 78 pounds now, has a WONDERFUL Hopsice nurse who is managing the pain for mom with meds, etc.
So my question now is, how do we know if everything is moving towards the end?  What can we do to help relieve her vomiting?
And as mom has kept her sense of humor with all this....who do we see about getting a better screening in place so no one else has to join the battle front of pancreatic cancer?
Any advice or help is appreciated.
Joan's daughter,
Janice

each patient is different , but usually toward the end patients dont eat, they sleep more and they have a wheezy, raspy  breathing.  What are you trying or have you tried for  the vomiting?

Screening for PC is a huge issue and the focus of much research.  As of now, PC is asymptomatic in ealy stages when a cure might be possible, difficult to diagnose even when symptoms appear and difficult to treat when diagnosed.  All that adds up to a 2% ,5 year survival rate.

God bless your time together.

Johns Hokins is currently conducting an early screening study called Caps 3. I was apart of it, it is very intense.  MRI's, CT's, EUS and blood tests are all apart of the study.  They are trying to determine the best screening method for screen Pancreatic Cancer.  You can go to the Johns Hopkins web sit to learn more.

Good Luck.
