Subject: Dr.'s fail at educating patients

I am a 36 year old who is 11 weeks pregnant with her second child. On my first prenatal visit at 8 weeks a pap smear was performed, 1 week later a nurse from my Dr.'s office calls (how impersonal) and says I have an abnormal pap smear. She wasn't even going to explain anything to me and when I asked questions her answeres were short with little information. I waited until my second prenatal visit and asked my Dr. he said we will discuss this on your next visit in March 2008....WELL THAT DID IT.....I ASKED FOR A DIFFERENT DR. and was given a little more information but not enough to satisfy me...crap this is my life and the life  of my child...EDUCATE ME DR. TELL ME EVERYTHING I NEED TO KNOW to arm myself...I just think it's a dang shame that we have to rely on the internet to do what we are paying our Dr. for and the fact that most DR.'s have no compasion and I think thats just crappy and I think they should be held accountable for  the way they treat their patients.I know your not GOD and can't cure all BUT compassion and education is something that should be the forefront of caring for your patients.

I think i'm done...thanks for letting me vent

I so agree with what you are saying. I often feel like I am on an assembly line. Has anyone else noticed that when they go to their medical doctors nowdays they almost always come away with a prescription? Never any advice as to what to do that might change the condition such as lifestyle changes or diet or supplements or how to go about relieving stress etc. etc. Is that all our medical colleges are teaching now?..... What drugs to prescribe for what conditions? My family doctor has a notice on his wall that patients are allowed two complaints per visit and if you have a third one, no matter how important it might be, you must make another appointment. So we have learned to prioritize our complaints hoping we have chosen the most urgent two to discuss. I am really thankful for boards like this one and the internet in general for all the knowledge that is available at a time when it is almost impossible to gain any insight from our "new...modern...doctors."
