I have a grade2 subependymal astrocytoma (spinal cord tumor). After an operation 17 years ago to partially remove the tumor I underwent a course of radiotherapy. After recovery I suffered only loss of sensation to touch below the operation site, and heat sensation loss and slight weekness in my left leg. 8 years ago the tumor recurred and I had another operation (no radiotherapy this time) with the result of partial paralysis of my left leg and increased loss of sensation to touch/ heat sensation in both legs. Over the last year the symptoms of muscle wastage and weekness in my left leg have increased with a spread of the loss of sensation to my right foot. An MRI scan has revealed that the tumor is stable and it has been suggested that the recent increase in symptoms may be a long term side effect of the radiotherapy I received 17 years ago. My surgeon and neurologist have been unable to offer much information, or any treatment to halt this decline, which continues. Has anyone any experience of this?
