I was diag. w/ stage 3 rectal cancer Jan 07 had surgery, they had to go to the vaginal wall to get clear margins.  I had chemo and radiation.  While having treatments had heavy period, went to OBGYN had pap, showed some dysplacia, which I was told was not uncommon, since I was having treatment.  That was last June, I completed my treatments in September, and had a complete CT in Nov. all looked good.  I went back to OBGYN to have another pap and that test now shows Atypical cells, which I was told that this was better than last one, and that I should wait 4 months and have another pap, if it shows any Atypical cells then we would do futher testing.  I guess I'm just a little afraid that maybe the cancer is there and I hate to wait.

Thanks, Stacy

Hi,

I'd ask your OBGYN if they can do cryotherapy on the atypical cells, rather than just waiting.  I had an abnormal pap 10 yrs ago- I believe they called them atypical.  They did the cryo and I've had normal paps ever since then.  Cryo is where they freeze the cells- they just do this vaginally- it wasn't too bad, just some cramping and minor bleeding for a day.  Mine had nothing to do with my cancer, since my rectal cancer diagnosis was just this past year (but am doing very well).  I was actually due to get my annual pap exam last month, but haven't gone in yet with all the other "stuff" going on with my health.  I'm curious now if any of my cancer or chemo I've gone through will affect the pap results.  I think I'll go ahead and set up an appt. to get that done- thanks for the reminder!

Best wishes to you-

Lisa

Thanks Lisa,

I did go back this week for my recheck and I will know by next week about the pap.  My Onclogist suggested that if this one comes back with any atypical cells that I should just go ahead and have a hyst.  So for now we are just praying that all is well.

I will keep you in my prayers.

Stacy
