Dad dx'd in WI 7/07 with Lung CA and by accident with CAT scan found another primary distal pancreas CA. Pancreas bx = adenocarcinoma. Did not do lung bx due to location, and past hx of extensive radiation for Hogkins in 1966. (He survived it thanks to Mayo at a time that it was not survivable). WI doc says palliative and Dad did chemo for 4 months. Dad went back to FL where he lives 12/07 with prescription for Tarceva. Took it for 5 days and quit. Dad began follow-up at Moffat Cancer Center in Tampa after Christmas. Moffat did lung bx= squamous, and redid CT, and told Dad surgery was advised (distal pancreatectomy and splenectomy). Dad and Moffat dissed WI hospital/clinic for not being aggressive enough. Two days before scheduled surgery (after 8 hours at Moffat speaking with anesthesiologist, surgeon etc) and 1 day after a PET scan, Moffat says inoperable due to blood vessel involvement... lets try chemo to give you a few more weeks. Not happy with Moffat, Dad signed a research waiver the first day he was seen at Moffat. WI doctor was right all along, Moffat Center had Dad traveling 2 hours one way 4-5 days a week for the past month for tests, procedures etc. and false hope.
