Hi to all.

Just wanted to thank everyone who has posted for their insights, info and encouragement. I have finished my 3 week Carac tx to face and am now 10 days post tx. Had Mohs surgery on my face and so was motivated to prevent future surgeries.Thought I would share some things that worked for me.

1. Aquafor is the only thing that gave me relief. I used this during the day to soften crusty areas and soothe burning along with bacitracin to open areas. Wait at least 2 hrs after applying Carac. Both my dermo and plastic surgeon recommended this. Keep using when done to help healing...it works! Tough to look greasy at work, but after few days, who cares.

2. I washed with Cetaphil; less irritating. Pat dry with softest towel you have. I used tissue to softly remove scales.

3. Remember to avoid sun exposure. My dermo said to use sunscreen but it burned. The plastic surgeion said NO to sunscreen right now (he didn't want any added chemicals). Talk to your Dr.

4. I also looked at some photos posted and was relieved to know I was supposed to look like that so did not freak out.

5. Dermo said 1 out of 10 pre-cancerous spots will progress to cancer so remind yourself that you may be preventing surgical removal in future.

6. Take advantage of the sympathy factor..pamper yourself!

Good luck if starting, and congrats if finished. My skin looks great; soft and new just slightly pink and peeling.

Hi Julie...congratulations on completion of your treatment.  Hope you've pampered yourself!!

I am just 7 days post treatment with Efudex...burning, itching and most peeling have stopped.  However, the redness subsides for a bit but flares up easily.

Are you just "slightly" pink in tx areas or do you flare up red also?

Julie,

Can I ask how old you are? Fair skin?  Did you have to do your whole face?  I have been asked to do my forehead down temples and 2" in front of ears and all of nose, including incision that is about 3 weeks old for squamous cell.  My whole face is itchy and spotted and aches in some places to the bone ( left temple)  Im 44 and very fair and sunqueen from the day...  Did you have alot of spots come up?  help
