Hi all,
My mom is now having mouth sores in her tongue, lips and in all of her mouth because of radiation to her head and neck she started 2 weeks ago. One of sores started to bleed.  I saw in another message board someone mentioned the Coats Aloe products, but I forgot who did that.  If anyone knows about these products (or any other product that may help), could you orient me as to what particular product to get?  The flavor drinks?  Do you order directly from there website or do you know if any pharmacy carries these products? Also, where could I get an actual Aloe Vera plant?
My mom was prescribed Miles solution, but she says it burns her mouth; the nurse  recommended to mix the Miles solution with Maalox, but it still burns.
The nurse told me also the OTC products could help, so I'm trying to see what may work better to relieve her pain.  But I feel that if she doesn't take the Miles solutions, the sores will not heal.  Am I correct?  She dreads taking that, and I don't want her to be in such a pain.
She also uses the Biotene products, and the gel seems to help, although it doesn't seem to help to heal them.
I bought Rincinol PRN because it has aloe vera extract. It helps with the pain, but I don't think it's healing the sores, either. From yesterday to today, they got worse in particular the ones in her lower lip. She was given a two week break from her radiation treatment, so I hope she heals as much as possible during this time before she starts again with the last 2 weeks of  radiation.

Thanks for any information you may have about this.

I forgot to mention that she rinses her mouth with baking soda, salt and water after meals and between meals, too.

My son has mouth sores from chemo and radiation.  The dr. suggested a supplement from GNC (General Nutrition Center) called glutamine.  It is a powder that you mix in a liquid and drink.  They also have capsules, but got the powder instead.  It is an amino acid supplement, which a friend who is a body builder said you need to heal the sores.  We use 1/2 tsp. in 4 oz of water, 3 times a day.  It seems to be helping.  I happened to be in Walmart, and they carried it there as well.   Good luck to you and God bless
