Hello everyone,

I joined the forum for my thyroid tumor but also because of my Acoustic Neuroma (AN) tumor.

Does anyone here has it too??

I discoreverd it in 2006 and have been monitoring it. It grew from 1.0x0.8x0.8 to 2.0x1.7x1.8 but it is now stable (at least it has been in the past 6 months. Will continue to monitor it with MRI every 6 months,

At the begining, I lost 20% of my hearingm that came back to 100% after one week,...anyone experienced anything similar?

Anyways, just le me know,...

Pascale

I first joined this forum because I had Bartholin Gland cancer but I too have an acoustic neuroma.

I had surgery in Dec. 2004 and my surgeon said "I got it all". Well, starting having symptoms again and an MRI confirmed it has grown back. My most recent MRI was in Nov. and I am watching and waiting like you. I will have another MRI in May and see if it's grown or not. So far, I have excellent hearing and I did not have permanent facial effects. I have had ongoing balance problems, mostly in the dark or when I'm tired. I do have concentration issues which I did not have before the surgery. Sorry, this is probably more information than you needed.

Just wanted you to know you have a kindred soul. Good luck!

Hello

tks for your message.

Yes, I also have some balance problems but they come and go, like when i'm standing still  or stand up fast. did you have concentration problem before the surgery? because I feel I have some now...like i can't focus and seem to not retain info...

How about ringing in the ear? I have some, again, that comes and goes.

I'm sorry to hear the AN grew back...:((( hopefully, you won't need to operate anymore..

good luck to you

Pascale,

I did not have concentration problems prior to the surgery. I was a great multi-tasker. Now I can't even do two things at once. I keep trying and inevitably I mess one of them up.

The balance issues are a pain but not really at a stage where I can't handle it. I just told a friend of mine the other day that I hope I never have to "walk a line" for a policeman (I don't drink) because I can't do it anymore.

I do have ringing in my ear too. I forgot about that when I first wrote you, another side effect of the whole thing. I've been a little nervous lately because it seems to be increasing. I hope that doesn't indicate that the tumor is growing again.

Oh well, I will handle whatever comes down the pike. Take care of yourself.

I saw your post regarding your Acoustic Neuroma.  Can I ask, who did your original surgery?

Thanks.

I live in the Kansas City area and my Neurotologist (surgeon) was Dr. Charles Luetje. Also on the team was a Neurosurgeon, Dr. Paul Camarata. It was done at St. Luke's Hospital on the Plaza.

If you have any other questions just get in touch.
