Hi, my name is hugh. My mother was recently diagnosed w/ adenocarcinoma in the periumbilical region but of unknown origin. She had a laparoscopy cholecystectomy 2 yrs ago which had dysplasic cells in the gall bladder but the cancer follows the scar tissue from the removal. my mother and I / family have been very proactive and have received every test available so far. She has no symptoms and all tests have shown that it is located in the periumbilical region and into the abdominal wall but no where else( Thank God). She had a petscan and ct scan that confirmed this.We are nervous now though because the ct scan scan shows "spotting" on the umendum behind the abdominal wall but the petscan did not. Does any one know what these "spots" could be and has anyone ever heard of this before? Any answers would be greatly appreciated... God Bless all of you..thank you.
A ct scan is just a like a picture of the cancer to see where it is. A PET scan actualy shows how active the cancer is. I belive it actualy shows how much energy the cancer is taking in. So I belive if the CT shows the tumors but the PET doesn't it is not a very strong tumor. Confirm with your Oncologist. Dont be afraid to call and leave a message part of your doctors job is to educate.
Wishing you all well!
