Subject: CANCER OF THE OESOPHAGUS

Does anybody know what the outcome is for this type of cancer? And worse still, what is the usual treatment? My friend has this cancer, there are two tumours present, cancerous. She is undertaking both chemotherapy and radiotherapy and family has been informed she will possibly have an operation in April - if possible to diminish the tumours. That she will have the oesophagus replaced by some of her intestinal tract and will be fed through her nose. Are others out there who have gone through or are going through this diabolical situation? Can one recover? and what is the quality of life after the operation? She has had her head shaved and wears a wig. Painfully thin, she has not been able to eat solid food for several months. Am I right in guessing her life right now is superior to what it will be after such an operation? Drugs she is on include: TEMESTA; ZYPREXA; ZOLPIDEM AND EDRONAX. She was taking Tamoxofin for 5 years and after that she contracted this cancer. I am truly anxious for her so will appreciate any information. The drugs she is on seem to have turned off her thoughts and memory so in a way she is coping better, unaware of much of it. But then she has been taking 5mg of Temesta for many years.... and I understand swallowing caustic tablets could cause cancer. She has a white blister on the side of her tongue. Could this have been a metastase? Thank you for any information. Jokerboy
