My mother's RCC has been so aggressive that sutent didn't work and now the toricel is not successful.  Is there anyone who has any information or ideas on what to do next?  I just don't have the heart to tell my mother that there is no further hope.

Can they try Nexavar? I would also look into IV Vit C therepy. Anything is worth a shot.

Best of Luck

Has your mother tried Nexavar?  Also, my doctor tried Avastin weekly, along with one Nexavar pill daily.  It worked for me.  It did drain me and I am now on Torisel.  But I do know in the back of my mind that this combination worked.  When I was on Nexavar (4 pills daily), the side effects were horrible.  The combination of Avastin and one Nexavar daily is not as harsh.  Please don't give up, have faith.  There are many other things out there that your doctor needs to explore.  There is also IL2 treatment, which is Interleukin 2 treatment.  Read on this.  I went through this, but it did not work for me.  However, my doctor has told me that he has had several patients go through this treatment and it has either greatly shrunk, or eliminated with cancer altogether.  Although it did not work for me, there is also another combination that my doctor firmly believes in and that's low dose IL2 along with Sutent.  There is also Interferon, which is an injection.  A friend of mine's father only had 3 months (according to his doctor), and that was about 4-5 years ago.  He is about 65 years old.  The side effects were horrible for him, but eventually his body got used to it.  His tumors have all shrunk and is doing fine.  Good luck and God bless you and your mother.  Keep up with the new information that is out there.  Stay positive!  Debbie

My sister has had very good results with Nexavar.  She has stage 4 in many places but until the past 2 months her tumors were decreasing.  She is being changed to Sudent for some liver tumors. I have read of many people who had good success with Sudent.  If her doctor has not tried Nexavar, try it now. Don't give up!

I don't know if this would be an option or not... but here a piece of info on a new clinical trial for RCC that is going to begin this year... There is a lot of other things to try out there... DONT GIVE UP HOPE.

In the phase I trial of AS1411 there were 12 patients with advanced renal cancer. Promising signs of anti-tumour activity were seen in this group, including two objective responses with substantial tumour shrinkage. In addition to these clinical findings, renal cancer cell lines have shown high sensitivity to AS1411. We are planning to start a phase II trial in renal cancer in 2008.

Does she have clear cell or Sacramatoid. Some very agressive cancer has some sacramatoid  cells       , I was on Sutent which was horrible and now am on Chemo {Gemsar} which has been a lifesaver. Usually chemo does not work for RCC but in my case it has helped. The side effects were alot less severe than Sutent .

On another kidney cancer board there was info on a new treatment whose results are so good in Phase III they have stopped the trial and are going for approval. All of the patients onthe trial had advanced kidney cancer that did not respond to Stuten, Nexavar, and Torisel.  Not sure what it entails but I would write to the company and see if there is any was to volunarily take it . It is called Everolimus, or RAD001 and is made by Novartis. Google Everolimus and you should find it. Says they had significant results with advance RCC. here is the message and the link to the article:

For those like me who have a time of keeping all this straight Everolimus is aka RAD-001

Everolimus is approved under the trade-name Certican® for the prevention of organ rejection in heart and kidney transplant recipients. Certican was first approved in the EU in 2003 and is available in more than 60 countries.
