Hello, I'm a 37 year old female, I'm not sure really how to say this in a way to where I don't sound like I'm a hypocondriac I just got my insurance straightened out, so I'm ready to move forward with the issue. I'm not sure if having clamitia about 10 years ago has anything to do with what is happening now, but I do remember one of the nurses who was treating me at the time said "Honey your not going to be able to have anymore kids" she asked me if I was aware of that. No I guess I wasn't until then. I never got a second opinion on that matter, I just proceeded to take care of my immediate problem. For about 15 years now I have been having the worse pain with my period every month, Sometimes so severe that an ambulance is called to take me to the emergency room. I can't describe the pain I feel, I would compare it to labor, (i have had one child before all of this) she is now 16. I fear my period as if it were the most evil thing that I can imagine. each time I go to the emergency room they tell me the same thing, That I NEED TO GET TO A SPECIALIST. I recieve my shot that I claim to be a gift from the hospital heaven, and go on just glad to be feeling better. I'm so tired all of the time that I feel like I'm 60 years old, I smoke, for 20 years now. I am usually an active person, I've been told I look like I'm 23 or so I was always very active. I get severe headaches right above my eyelids and I just don't feel right anymore. My little sister who had 4 kids aquired ovarian cancer but had a hysterectamy she is fine now. thank god. My grandmother on the other hand died of massive cancer, that was written on her death certificate. she never smoked a day in her life. I guess I'm saying that I'm very very afraid. I have had a few medical personel tell me that I have a sever problem, that I probably shouldn't ignore like I have been. I need to do this, I just would like to know, will I be more likely to walk away relieved or the other?

Tammy,

From all that I have learned after waiting 4 months to see a specialist and being VERY FORTUNATE to only have stage IC cancer, you can't be sure that anything is cancer. Your pain may be endometriosis. The symptoms of this disease on not black & white. I think every symptom can be more than one thing. They thought I had ovarian cysts or uterine fibroids. Until they did a CA125 and found it elevated (110 vs <35) they really didn't expect cancer. Most people who wait to get as big as I did end up with stage 3 or 4 cancer and have a poor prognosis.
GO SEE A SPECIALIST and know that it's the best thing you can do no matter what the result. The sooner you see somebody, the better off you are.
I had a hysterectomy 3 and a half months ago. My CA125 is less than 6 and the doctors are backing off saying I NEED chemotherapy. I also am 30 pounds lighter and am walking at least a brisk 2 miles several times a week.

Tammy,
I complained for about a year before I finally told my regular doctor that I thought something was wrong with me. I had just been told I had diabetes and that diabetics carry their weight through their midsection. I started a diet regime but couldn't lose the midsection. In fact I gained weight. The gastro. specialists told me I had irritable bowel syndrome. I wouldn't leave his office until he felt of my stomach. He finally did and sent me straight to have a CT scan. The scan revealed a very large mass coming off one ovary and a smaller one coming off the other ovary. Ten days later I was in surgery and had a 17 pound malignant tumor removed along with a total hysterectomy, and the omentum removed. It was stage 1C ovarian cancer. Don't wait to have an answer from your doctor. Be very persistant for answers. Unfortunately, we (patients) sometimes have to take matters into our own hands. I also went through 4 rounds of chemo. I am in remission. Don't wait on this....most of the time ovarian cancer doesn't show symptoms until it is too late.
Take care!!
Subject: i Also Have Diabeties

I don't have cancer, but I am in the process of being tested, that blood test came back slightly high so my doctor is still not sure, however, a x-ray revealed a large mass possibly on my L. ovary or bladder. I have the usual symptoms, constipated, trouble urinating, unusal bleeding, pressure, nausea, pain in my pelvic area, back pain and weight gain. I have gained about 10lbs this last 6 months, despite losing my appetite. What I want to know is how did this affect your diabeties? I am only 26 and, have had type 1 for 20 years. I have went through what you did, they tried to blame it on my diabeties, on the fact that some diabetics have a slower digestive tract, I had all the usual digestive tract test done (but found nothing). It wasn't until they did a pelvic x-ray did they believe me that something was wrong. But, like I said I don't have cancer, I am only being tested. Also I had a physical about 1 month before these symptoms started but my doctor found nothing, is this usual?
