Biopsy??

Subject: Biopsy??

 First time posting

I am 74 and am a 6 year survivor of lung cancer.My psa is 4.9 up from high 3s.Once before it jumped to over 4 but went down within a year.My Doctor now want a biopsy I want to wait to see if it drops like it did a few year back.Any thought,I have no symptoms,digital exams seems o'kay

There's no such thing as a "normal" PSA number: many things can influence it, including an enlarged prostate. and as you've already experienced, there can be occasional unexplained variations.

More of concern is any overall trend and rate of change  in PSA readings.

I'd be inclined to have another PSA done  to see if there is an obvious trend developing. 

Request a "free PSA" test as well: this shows the % of PSA from normal benign causes.
