I'm new to this message center ...didn't know it existed but glad it does as I'd like to hear from anyone who experiences Post Esophagectomy reflux.

I had my esophagectomy in January 1995 ...13 years ago last month. I've had reflux for 13 years. I take prilosec once a day ...at one time it was twice a day.  I'm on medications for for other issues including high blood pressure & a heart condition, so I must be careful about new medications.

Although I've had reflux for 13 years, there are times when I have none for weeks while there are times when I experience it almost daily.  I've had 20 incidents since the first of the year ...always during my sleep and after many hours since eating.

My reflux is at times quite violent causing the blood vessels in my face to rupture. Many times it appears that I've either been beaten in the face or stayed in the sun too long. I've had aspiration pneumonia a few times.

I've never talked with anyone about the possible remedies or repairs. I'd be pleased to hear from anyone with such experience & with what they have done or could do to alleviate this reflux.

My best regards to all.

Hello Dave

I have just found this site it is now 2am and I have just had a chronic reflux attack which last about 45 minutes and leaves me totally exhausted this has been happening for the past 10 days.  Usually I have one of these attacks about every 4 to 5 weeks and they last for about two to three nights not 10...what has triggered this off I do not know as I am very careful of diet and not eating after 6pm, have been doing a lot of gardening which involves bending and some lifting.  I had my operation two years ago.

So I completely understand what you are going thru, I have not had pneumonia however, I do end up with congestion on the lungs after each attack.  I take nexium and motillium.

Sorry I cannot help, it does help me to talk to someone experiencing the same symptoms.

Kind regards Robyn
