Subject: anyone stopped sutent due to high pressure?

My mom had to come off her sutent after three weeks (4th cycle) because her blood pressure skyrocketed causing TERRIBLE headaches on about 4 occasions, and on 2 occasions in particular, there was a very brief short term memory loss, and slight slurring.

Just with specific names she was trying to remember or the year it was.

Anyway, came off the sutent and admitted in to hospital to monitor.

She’s been on pressure pills for years even before diagnosis.  She was doing so well in recent months that she came off of the pressure pills (bad move)

So when she started sutent, there was nothing to really protect her from her pressure going up high.  Even though pressure is back down to normal now and she seems great, she’s getting little delusions, seeing lights, halos at times etc.

She’s on three epilim a day now in case of any mini seizure which the docs think she might have been experiencing with the high pressure.  And then doubled up her pressure pills – a Vasotec and Norvasc in the morning and then again at nights.

Anyone had any similar experience?  Keeping such a watchful eye.  Other than all this, her heart and blood tests came back good.  They’re even saying the tumors she once had in her brain are not there, but what is showing up is scarring from possibly an “old Stroke”  which we never knew she might have experienced.  I am cautious about this though and need a second opinion.  Everything has me nervous at this stage.

Thanks for everyone’s prayers…

Dally

Hello:

Started Sutent last year and completed 6 treatments until my blood pressure went sky high and I had a TIA just before Christmas.  Was taking 50 MG of Sutent.  My Onc Doctor wanted to take me completely off the Sutent but I protested because it was doing such a good job.  We compromised and reduced the dosage to 25 MG, increased blood pressure medicines and just completed my first treatment on 25 MG with no problems at all.  Just completed a CT scan yesterday so should be able to see how the treatments are going next week.

Later,

Hurley

ok great...well let me know how scans went.

i was just thinking yesterday that maybe it might only be safe for her to be on 25mg from hereon. I don't want a repeat of what happened this time.

Forgive my ignorance but what is TIA

Note:  TIA is a new term for light stroke.  It was never determined that  what I had was a seizure or light stroke.  I'm on siezure medicine, however.
