My mother age of 63 was just diagnosed with Cholangio Carcinoma (anoid carcinoma cell) cancer. She had 1/3 of her liver removed and resected. The docter (Liver transplant specialist) at the University of Birmingham, AL said the the margins are good. There is no sign of cancer in her blood or anywhere else at this time. Is this common? She will be starting chemo and radiation in 6-8 weeks. The type of chemo is Xeloda. Any info on this would be helpful. Are there any good sights on the web. I am having trouble researching because it is so rare.

God Bless

Dear Susan, As cancer cells by nature are "reclusive", anaerobic, and acidic, whenever they are in an area with great potential for abundance of therapeutic flows, the prognoses are good-to-excellent! As you may also know, the liver is capable of renewing itself, given what it needs. To provide the amino-acids for repair/building structure, and to provide the other nutrients: whole-food-aource vitamins, chelated minerals, daily exercise that is stimulating, yet non-fatiguing, pure water, and even oxygen therapy could potentially serve to render any need for chemo/radiation an unworthy detour from the road to health! An important priority is to see to the mineralization in balance, that the cellular pH is raised, and the liver is ALWAYS supplied with alkaline material,
for bile is "normally" quite alkaline, and there is always a low pH-factor when we see malignant growth in the digestive system from either above
or below the stomach itself! God has made our bodies to maintain/repair themselves, given the materials, and attitudes, which are needful! Be
encouraged, as all the above can be accomplished without any major financial increase in the "diet budget", as most of the things that are best for us are of superior quality and value
while balancing these with their expense! God bless, and good health to all! Sincerely, Michael

Avec plaiseur, madame: I suggest Cancer Treatment Centers of America (CTCA), CTCA's Seattle Cancer Treatment and Wellness Center & the cancertutor.com website, as 3 excellent places to begin further research. A question to ask the oncologist who, while reporting the total absence of cancer, yet maintains that further destructive invasive (chemo-/et al.)procedures are essential: 1)Why?, &/or 2)Of what benefit to the health of a living cell have by-products of the petrochemical industry ever been?(Best asked on exit, as he/she may say a great deal, but they cannot satisfactorily answer either question!!

This tactful presentation permits them to smile in pseudo-condescension, appear to "lose no face", and add no more nonsense to their spoken record.) Since the early 1950's, every cancer researcher has known that cancer cells cannot live in 1)an alkaline environment, 2)an oxygen-rich environment. 300 years of pressure-intensive oxygen therapy has shown that it is not "oxidative stress", but rather hypoxia &/or
anoxia (Low, or lack of O2)that produce the metabolic anomalies known as free radicals! Our British & European cousins laugh at us(not fair; we are not vapid, rather uninformed!)for our list of deceptions we so readily accept w/o analysis! I must away, as economic pressures call me. Please let me know if I may be of further service.

McCutheonmom,

I would be interested to know the success rate of alkaline treatments and oxygen therapy. Don't ignore MLM but don't ignore your doctor either. Many people out there are preying on desperate cancer victims. The best defense is education. Get on the internet and search.

Chemotherapy and/or radiation is recommended after surgery to kill cancer "seeds" left in the lymphatic and circulatory system. Surgery is not a guarantee that the cancer will not return.

A combination of changing your lifestyle and listening to your doctor is a prudent course. Its your decision. Good Luck.

Sue, I was dx Sep 03 with cholangiocarcinoma and was non-resectable. I did 12 cycles of Cisplatin and Gemzar chemo, became allergic to cisplatin and switched to Xeloda chemo pills in May 04. I took seven 500 mg pills a day for 14 days then no pills for 14 days. after 3 cycles and checkup MDAnderson, Houston decided to attempt the resection as Xeloda had caused a little bit of shrinkage in the tumor. It was 6" x 4" and is about 40% of my liver (Total Left lobe involvement). To make a long story short they did find 2 lymph nodes with involvement so resection was not done. It is better to leave existing tumor as is and seemingly contained than to remove and risk cancer reattacking my 60% good liver. I continued on Xeloda until may 05 when I had my first growth since dx in Sep 03. A slight shadow of growth in liver and a nodule we had been watching in lower right lung went from 1 cm to 2 cm. I began a new regimen of Irinetecan, lecovorin and 4 FU in June. I go back to Houston Aug 1st for checkup. Oh, and I didn't loose hair on Xeloda but have now lost it due to new chemo regimen. It's not so bad. I always said It's just hair and if it goes, it goes. I'd rather take treatment than worry about the hair. LOL.
Anyways, I did really well on the Xeloda. Only symptoms were fatigue (which I've always had) and the dry, itchy, cracking and peeling of skin on feet (which wasn't a lot at any one time - I just used lots of good lotion with cotton socks to help control it). They list quite a few other side effects but I never had them. Everyone is different and react differently to the chemo.
It is great that your mom got to have the resection. They tell me I may never see remission but I'm really not that sick feeling even though I am on disability now. I generally do whatever I want. If I push too hard and overdo it I just have a few down days and sleep a lot till I feel like getting out and about again. I plan to live a long time as is and to enjoy each day. It is a battle and a positive attitude is about 95% of that battle. So keep up the support and love and make the most of each day.
Hugs and prayers,
Marilyn

Marilyn,

My mom was told about the cracking/itching of hands and feet. She started using utter balm, the one with the cows all over the bottle (this brand recommended by doctor) before she did the chemo. She did not get that sympton. Give it a try!!

My mom is now finished with her radiation and chemo. Did really well. Only about 4 times did she have to take a nausea pill. She lost about 10 lbs but they think that was from the surgery. The doctors are now discussing if any further chemo will be needed at this time.

Keep up that great attitude of yours. That is 95% of the battle. I wish you well and will pray for you.

Just giving everyone an update on my mother. She had 1/3 of her liver removed (no resection). Was on Xeloda and radiation. The Xeloda continued until Dec 21 05. She had a CT scan done and the margin where they operated is still show some cancer in bile duct and now she has 2 spots on liver. They are now continuing the Xeloda on Jan 21 05 with one week on and one week off. She is opting not to have a liver transplant or have the radiation tube directed at the tumors. Too painful. I have given her videos from Lorraine Day about a raw food diet. Not interested. I am dissapointed that she is not open to anything other than what her doctor says. I am not saying that she should stop chemo or anything like that. She also is not interested in learning anything more about the cancer. I have been doing research thanks to all you good people who have helped!! I am going to ask her to talk to her doctor about Leucovorin, Gezmar and Oxaliplatin in addition to her Xeloda. How do you help someone who you love who has already given up hope. All she says is that it is in Gods hands. I agree but she should also try to help herself. It seems she won't even listen unless you have the white coat on!

Anyone have suggestions on how to deal with the negativity? I try to keep upbeat and positive. It's hard though when she seems to be throwing in the towel.

Desperate

I'm Australian and my mum is going through the exact same things. I have been telling her for ages to try natural alternatives and now as the Dr's cant do any more for her there really is no other choice. They are so tired they just want to give up. I explained to her that the Dr's have to see 100's of people and they have to have a scientific non emotional approach which has to be overlooked and not taken into account when there is actually hope (even though it may not appear to be). Can you tell me what books/Dvds you got, I'd like to check them out here in Sydney to see if this will help my mum, they've given her 3 months and they could never operate anyway as the cancer was too big when it was discovered quite late. They just went straight into Chemo then radiography which I thought was strange seeing they are only supposed to do that after surgery. It was too late for surgery. She now has 2 nodes in her brain, tiny ones which gave her a slight stroke. I still have hope but would love to try some other things. I hear natural juices are the go (Sandra Cabot).
cheers.

P.S. My mum mentioned that Vitamin C can also help, has anyone ever heard of this or has more info?
