Hi everyone,

Been reading all your messages and one thing for certain we all have in common is a positive outlook, everyone is researching and trying various foods and drink, what will the pharmaceutical companies do if it turns out that something as simple as ginger could be the 'magic bullet' !

Has anyone heard of radiofrequency ablation for ovarian cancer? apparently back in 2006 a trial involving six women with advanced OC had this treatment and five of the six women had not had a reacurrence after only one treatment! sounds promising.

I wish you all good health and hopefully soon we will be treating OC as a chronic illness and not a life threatening desease.

Very best wishes

Lin

I have ovarian cancer stage 3 with metz. to the liver.  It took 18 months but the tumor is not dead.  The radiofrequency ablation is what finally did the trick.  I'm now back in remission.

Just read your message re radiofrequency ablation. When you said that the tumour was not dead was that with regular chemo treatment? has the RFA managed to 'exterminate' the tumour? how did you have it done and have you had any side effects? how long since you had it done? and did you have a scan afterwards to show that it had got rid of the tumour? sorry for so many questions but I am back on chemo and feel I would much rather have the RFA as its less damaging to all the other tissues. Also do you have tumours anywhere else other than the liver? what chemo did you have before they decided on RFA?

So pleased to hear you are doing well.

Kindest regards

Lin

Yes, the pet-scan showed that the tumor was not dead after chemo.  But, I had to stop the chemo after only 3 doses (carbo/taxol--same as before) due to an allergic reaction to the carbo.  The RFA did kill the remaining cancer cells.  I had RFA in Nov. 2007 and a pet-scan in Dec 2007 which showed no active cancer cells.  The procedure was done under conscious sedation and I was pretty sore for about a month.  My only side effect was from my lung rubbing against the now dead tumor.  It really hurt to take a deep breath, this lasted for around 3 months.  I had a pet-scan one month after RFA which showed that the cancer was dead.  This one tumor was the only area of metastasize since the orginal cancer Dec. 2004.  I hope this is helpful.  God Bless  Shirley

Pet-scan june 2006 showed active cancer on my liver.  We did chemo Carboplatin/Taxol (Same chemo as before) but I had a very serious allergic reaction to the carboplatin after just 3 doses.  I had another pet-scan in Nov.

for reply, couple more questions if you do not mind, did you have RFA to remove the tumour from the outside of your liver and what size was it? also did you have one on your lung and was that also ablated? also what regime of treatment did you have since 2004 and what remission periods did you get in between? so pleased to hear this treatment has worked for you, I am also hoping it will be offered to me.

Kind regards

Lin
