Subject: Appt With a Chest Surgeon
Date: 06/01/2005
Pet scan I had last Friday showed a 2cm lesion in the upper left lobe which "lit" up.
My pulmonologist made an appointment for me with a chest surgeon for this Monday.
What can I expect? Is this to set up for a biopsy? Isn't the first thing to be done to find out what kind of tumor it is. You just dont have major lung surgery without knowing the tumor type, do you?

Secondly, I am wondering, I have other lesions, but they did not light up. Doc said maybe old infections.
My question is: has any one had other lesions which did not light up, and been told they werent cancer, and then later on these same lesions turned cancerous?
Or doesnt old scar tissue and infections turn to cancer?
Thank you all,
Joyce

Dear Joyce;

Can't help you much, but 2 years ago, my PET scan also LIT up and my pulmonologist scheduled me with a surgeon. We discussed doing a biopsy, but he felt sure it was a cancer, so we scheduled surgery. I just couldn't convince myself that I wanted anything that could possibly be cancer in me one more day than necessary. He operated 5 days later, took out left upper lobe. It was cancer. So far cancer free for 2 1/2 years, thank God.

Good luck;
Sandy
