I had emergency surgery October 2005. When I went to the emergency room I was vomiting and hurting so bad, I could not walk without help. They did several tests and said that my uterus was huge, but I had a hysterectomy, without removing ovaries, so I knew that was not true. (My doctor had retired and had went to a new doctor because I was gaining weight in my abdomen, but he did not find anything wrong. Less than 3 months later I was in hospital.) They immediately prepared me for surgery, one ovary was the size of a basketball and the other one was the size of a softball. I woke up in intensive care on a respirator. They had to restart my heart during the long surgery. The smallest ovary was bleeding, doctor said if I had not came in when I did I would have bled to death. They washed the pelvic area and removed lymph nodes to make sure it had not spread there. (It had not!) I was told that it had seeded. I was also informed that this type of cancer did recurr. I was also informed that I had to have a CT scan every 6 months for 2 years and then once a year, plus the Inhibin A and B blood test. Well, never made it to having the CT scan once a year. Have had it every 6 months since Oct 2005 because there were small spots in lower back pelvic area. Last August, Doctor ordered PET scan and it showed that it was larger, but not large enough for surgery. So I wait and go back and have my blood work and my CT scan, and when it gets large enough, they will do surgery again. I was told by two different doctors that it attacks the pelvic area, colon, breast, lungs and liver. It is slow growing, and I thought HEY JUST WAIT until it gets large. I finally have learned to cope with the realization that I will have the tests every 6 months and I know there is no real treatment for it, other that the surgery. If you have a rare cancer, then you don't have the resources that others have with more well known cancers. But with the Lord's Help I survived the first surgery, and 364 days later I saw my beautiful grandson born. So we all should find the best doctor, do what he/she saids and help one another. We, the survivors, are currently the best resource there is.
