Forgive me if this has been addressed before, but I am new to this board. My father in law was diagnosed last April with stage 2 pancreatic cancer. He underwent a mini whipple in July. The surgeon could not remove the entire tumor since there was arterial involvement from the liver. My father in law has been on chemo/radiation for months in the hopes that the tumor would shrink and they could then go in and remove it. The tumor has shrunk somewhat but not enough for the surgeon to repeat surgery. They have put him back on new chemo and his CA-19 numbers have increased. He is being treated in Florida and has just expressed interest in seeking another opinion. From reading, I have learned that there are good facilities at MD Anderson in Texas or John Hopkins in Maryland. I would like to obtain some doctors names where my father in law could just get another opinion on the option of surgery. From Texas, I have read about Dr. Douglas Evans or Dr. Peter Pisters and from Maryland I have read about Dr. John Cameron. Does anyone have any info on these doctors or others? How can I research good oncologists/surgeons in other places? I have also contacted PanCan for their help but if anyone has any other interesting options or knows anything about these doctors or others I would welcome a response. Thanks so much.

Thank you so much for your quick response. I appreciate the information and have heard of Dr. Lee. Since my brother in law lives in NY, I think they want to bring him up to NY first-either Sloan Kettering or Columbia Presbyterian for a consult. Does anyone have any names of oncologists/surgeons for either of these two facilitiles? thanks again for all the help. Good luck to all who are experiencing this horrible disease.

We looked at a hospital in Tampa that was very good - since you are in FL - I'll have to ask my aunt and report back the name for you. Anderson is very good as well as John Hopkins. Instead of making the long and trying trips, we sent all of my father's scans, reports, etc. to each location (after having made an inital contact) and had them look at everything. For my dad, there was nothing anyone could do, but this approach saved him from having to travel all over the place. Anderson also has a FL location too - I think it's in Orlando but I'm sure their site would indicate where.

I wish you all the luck on your journey.

I know of a Dr. Fine--I believe his is with Columbia.  Google him--I was told he was a pancreatic expert. Best of luck, going through the same thing with my father.  We took him to Sloan, but he did not want to do a trial. The trip 1 1/2 hours was to hard for him.  Now he is being treated locally by an oncologist who suggested GTX.  He had his first dose today and is feeling fine--just tired.  Hopefully he responds to treatment. This is just an awful disease in need of more research!!!!
