My Father's Poem That He Wrote When He Was First Diagnosed With Stomach Cancer

My Fight with Cancer

Dreadful Cancer we will treat you, with the help of God we'll beat you

You did catch me by surprise, but don't worry we'll meet you.

You invaded my stomach; I hope it's not forever

You are so ruthless and wild, that you left marks on my liver.

You have killed so many people, everywhere in the world

You did hit me in the stomach, with the baton that you twirled.

You invaded my body, but you can't break my soul

I won't give you that credit; this is just nature's role.

God is always on my side, this is why I'm brave and strong

I do have the willpower; you are just another ding dong.

My doctor's are professionals; they are full of skills and knowledge

They have done a lot of studies, far beyond a little college.

All the members of my family are supportive and they care

Now you know why? Bastard cancer, I don't have any fear.

Pretty soon I'll be set free, from your claws oh nasty cancer

You are nothing but a devil, in the costume of a dancer.

Lila, What a fighter your father is.  His poem is on the mark.  I hope he beats this terrible disease - stomach cancer took my wonderful husband on February 22, 2008.  It is like a nightmare from which I can't wake up.  I miss him desperately.  I hope your father wins this war - he sure has a good attitude and obviously a supportive family.

Thanks for your very kind words Diane and I am truly sorry for your loss.  I'm sure that your husband is in a much better place.  It is such a terrible disease and the odds are against us but my dad is fighting with all of his might.  Yes, I agree that his words really show his anger at the cancer and his will to stand up and fight.  He's a former teacher who taught in the high school public school system in a very tough neighborhood for 35 years of his life and he always said that if he could survive there then he could survive anywhere.  We are all truly proud of him and his accepting of this battle against this disease.  We can only hope and pray and support from folks on this web site such as yourself really helps.  God bless you Diane and thanks for caring....
