Just thought I'd update ya'll on my husband. We met with the onc. last week and came to the decision that chemo would only prolong the enivitable, and the garentee of a good quality of life was not possible.  The tumor in the EC has shrunk alittle. He can eat but has NO appeptite. The cancer has spread to the Liver, and the Onc. says most likely elsewhere as well, but he has declined any further testing. My husband is fine with all of this, but call me selfish......I'm not ready to throw in the towel. The Onc. told me he has maybe 2 months, could be alittle longer depending on the health of my husband. Well his health is going down hill. He has thrown up for the last 5 days, sleeps alot of the time, and has no energy or is never hungry.

We now have Hospice coming 2 days a week. They seem like a great support for my husband.

The Onc. told me that his Liver is in bad shape, and that this type of cancer is very fast progressing. He said it won't be long before he starts getting sick, or having other problems.

I've read where Liver cancer patients have lived awhile, is that because they are still undergoing treatment? Does anyone know how long a person can survive without treatment?

Any suggestions or advice and all prayers will be greatly appreciated.

So sorry to hear the news about your husband. I doubt I would be ready to throw in the towel either, but also understand how he just doesn't want to go further in treatment without knowing there's a viable reason to do it. I think we all wonder what will happen if and when we come to that day. The treatment is just so difficult, and has so many possible side effects, and I sometimes think the more we go after it, the harder it is for the body to deal with the toxicity. I will certainly keep you in my prayers, and hope he remains fairly comfortable over this next phase. Please try to take care of yourself. I'm sure you are his rock and support. I will pray that the many small blessings in life are showered on each of you generously.

I know the tongren cancer calls may sound ridiculous to many of you, but even the people who are beyond being able to cure their cancer say they get relief and better quality of life through it's use. I don't want to push it on anyone, but want you to know if he ever feels inclined to try I can let you know how to reach the group that meets on the phone since the stage 4 cancer group is not widely advertised. There are several EC patiients in the group at this point beyond my husband. As a pleasant aside, my sister saw our oncologist this week, and she told her she anticipated Patrick (my husband) would be around for a good long while still. I was pleased since she told me a week ago that we weren't going to cure this, but she can't figure out why he is so atypical of EC. I keep telling her it's my doll. Anyways-if you're not interested I may have at least made you laugh, and I don't mind being laughable since laughter is much needed medicine for all of us. Hope you and your husband share at least a few moments of light and laughter today!
