My husband was just diagnosed with pancreatic cancer with lesions in his liver. This has been told us by the ct scan results. The doctor said we've got to get a positive biopsy to go to MD Anderson. So that's where we are now. I'm so scared of this cancer and how quickly the patients seem to go. Just wanted to introduce myself (Vicki) and glad I found a place where  I can get moral support. I know I'm going to need it.

Hi!   Sorry to hear about your husbands DX. MD Anderson is the best place to be if you have cancer of any kind. I was there off and on from Aug. to Oct. 07. my DX is RCC (renal cell carcinoma). they will give your husband the best chance to beat this. they have all kinds of support groups info or aid of every kind. My prayers are with you& your husband.

I agree MD Anderson is a good place to go-we have not been there, but when my husband was diagnosed with stage 4 last year we looked into that place as well as Cancer Treatments Center  of America. We didn't want to wait to start treatment-new tests etc so we stayed with the dr in Abilene. We are glad we did. He is a fine oncologist and praise the Lord my husbands TM is now down to 8. Cancer is not a death sentence anymore.

It is very scarry, ad sometimes seems to be more that we can deal with ,

my husband's favorite thing he said was that he was going to LIVE until he died. He never gave up even with the fatigue that put him down a lot.

He is back to work full time and we are making plans for summer activities. I plan to celebrate our 50th anniversary and that is a few years away.

Don't give up. If you read, one of the best books isThere's No Place Like Hope by Vickie Girard. I got mine one from Amazon.

Do research-learn as much as you can. The first thing I did was eliminate sugar. Why feed something you're trying to kill-Cancer feeds on glucose.

I got nicknamed Sergeant Jan! because I was so strict about the menu!

Just hang in there and don't let any thing take away  your hope!

Jan

I'm not sure why he'd say you had to have a positive biopsy first.  We self referred him to M D Anderson on their internet site after my boyfriend had a stent put in for jaundice and then a CT scan.  The endoscopic ultrasound was inconclusive, but M D Anderson still took him and we had an appointment in about a week, and he was having radiation and chemo within 3 weeks.  I'd contact M D Anderson if you're interested in them and see what they tell you.  Can't say enough good things about the care and positive outlook of the whole environment at MDA.

Thank you so much. I'll definitely check on that.

The Pancreatic Cancer Action Network, www.pancan.org has been a great source for my family.  My mother was diagnosed in July 07 and died in Nov. 07.

I am sorry about your husband's diagnosis. My father was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer September 2005.  Thankfully, he was able to have the Whipple procedure. After a few months of recovery we were able to take him to MD Anderson in Houston.  He was in a clinical trial that involved 5fu,cisplatin, and radiation.  Most of the treatment was everyday.  This protocol was extremely hard on him and he was only able to take it for three weeks.  Still, we think it did wonders for him.  We returned home and after more recovery time, he returned to chemo treatments for six months. Dad was cancer free for two and a half years.  Just recently they found metastatic liver cancer.  He is back on chemo (gemzar) and Tarceva.  He is having the usual side effects from Tarceva but overall is feeling well.  Our family can not say enough good things about MD Anderson.  They were so kind not only to my Dad but to our entire family.  I know how afraid you are, gather all the information you can and fight like hell!

All our prayer are with you and your family
