Walgreens & Crc Awareness Month

Records 1-1 of 1
Subject: Walgreens & CRC Awareness Month
Date: 03/18/2008
The other day, a friend of mine told me that she had seen some brochures back by the pharmacy counter in your local Walgreens (Orlando, FL-Hi Nancy!). Well, today I happened to go to my local Walgreen's (Puyallup, WA) and noticed two 'posters' by the front door.
One of them said,

COLORECTAL CANCER IS
THE SECOND MOST LEADING CAUSE
OF CANCER DEATHS

The other one said,

EVERY 9 MINUTES SOMEONE DIES
OF COLORECTAL CANCER IN THE US.
Both went on to talk about screening although the latter was in much smaller print.

The last one was a little scary-I guess I hadn't realized that fact. At any rate, the manager happened to be right inside the store and I thanked him profusely for putting those posters up. He was taken aback somewhat, but when I explained that I was a CRC survivor, he understood and thanked me for noticing. I then went to the back of the store and sure enough, by the pharmacy were more phamplets about CRC screening.

Corporate Walgreen's has apparently taken up the cause for this month and is promoting CRC awareness. They even have it mentioned on their website along with a link-here that is. Sometimes you have to refresh their website as it changes.

I would ask that if you go into a Walgreens in March that you make a point to thank the managers for putting the posters up. The reality is that they were probably told to, but the more people like us who come in and thank them, who make it known that we saw the posters, etc. the better the chances that colorectal cancer will become more visible to the public. In case anyone wants to write to Walgreens, here is their corporate information.

Thanks for taking the time to read this.
