my dad diagnosed with rectal cancer for a month now, stage III. he will undergo radiation and chem next Monday, then surgery later. Yesterday my dad bleed 9-10 times. i almost take him to emergency for transfusion. i have a lot of questions that need your guidance. i know bleeding is part of the cancer? but how much bleeding need to be concerned. will it stop for a period of time then bleed again? if blood count low, is it o.k. to do radiation and take Xeloda? can i use aluminia chloride or feric chloride solution to stop the bleeding? please advice.

Hi Leah: My husband has rectal cancer and had the same problem. He started wearing ladies pads in his underwear to keep the blood from getting all over everywhere. The radiation and chemo will stop the bleeding. It took 2-3 weeks of treatments (5 days a week) but it did stop. He has been finished with the treatments since March 25th and has not bled anymore. Hope this helps. I know how hard it is. Hang in there, this is a tough journey but we can all get thru it. Judy
