hello,

i am writing bc i am concerened about my mother.  her aunt just passed away within 3 weeks of her gall bladder diagnosis.  i just learned that my mom had severe gallstones, resulting in the removal of her gall bladder when she was about 38 (she is now about 48).  however, she still has unexplained abdominal pains, had a past h. pylori infection, and the whites of her eyes are yellow (but have been for a while).  my question is, should she be worried about gall bladder cancer even though her gall bladder was removed long ago (no biopsy was performed that i know of).  also, if so, what tests should she have done to rule out cancer?  thank you for your time and help.

Look back in her medical records, ask her surgeon if the gall bladder went to pathology. I think anything removed from your body goes to pathology.

A PET scan is pretty accurate if you can get her insurance to cover it.

Have her liver looked at.

Good Luck!

She may have a growthTumor, Polyp etc) in her Bile Duct causing it to back up making her jaundiced.  Make sure they do every scan of her Bile Duct and liver if possible.  If it is cancer, the only way to survive these types of caners is to get to them early.
