My husband was diagnosed with Large b-cell lymphoma. Massive tumor around base of aorta. After the first treatment, 2 weeks ago, he was okay for the first 2-3 days and know everything is like slow motion. He speaks very little, kinda zones out, however he can tell you all his vital statistics. Having alot of problems with walking (had stroke 4 years ago-weak left side). Doctor seems to think everything is okay?? Has anybody out there experienced similar reaction?

I had CHOP but not the R part.  Yes, during chemo you have barely the energy to hold a glass of water.  Thankfully, I hardly remember how tough chemo was, the brain helps us out there.  Please don't let me get dehydrated and remember his blood counts are way down.

A trick for me was the day after chemo, I would go back to the facility and get a bag of saline solution.  This helped with the dehydration tremendously.  Remember he is being zonked with super strong chemo drugs.  My onc didn't tell me how strong these chemo agents were until chemo was over.  And the CHOP treatments are one of the very strongest.

I know you are doing your best to help him and the best thing you can do is give him a glass of water everytime you think of it.

My Dad also has diffuse large b cell lymphoma.  He had his first CHOP-R treatment 4/18/08.  He too done really well the first two or three days, he actually said he felt better than he had for long time - he has arthritis, and a lot of the medication included with the CHOP is anti-imflamitory, plus the prednisone.  The doctor said that is why he was feeling so good.  About the 4th day after tho, he wasn't doing so good.  It scared me, so I called the lymphoma org and the cancer society, and they both said this was fairly normal - other than the headaches he was having, but then again, he was constipated, so the headaches could have been from that.  They said to make sure he got plenty of liquids.  They suggested ensure too.  Also, pedialyte if you can get him to take it since it has the added electrolytes.

 Good luck, and God Bless!
