Help Me

I am desperate and alone.  My 40 year old husband just got diagnosed with squamous cell carcinoma of the left tonsil.  We are awaiting staging.  I have 3 small children 6, 18 months and 7 months and now I am in the batlle for the life of my husband and best friend.  I am 38  and scared and trying so hard to be strong for my family I feel like a bomb blew up my life and I am standing in the ruins trying to take the first step.  Please help.

I felt exactly the way you described when my husband was diagnosed with squamous cell lung cancer, stage 3a.  I was so upset I could not function.  I finally called my Doctor and he gave me a mild transquilizer.  That helped me so much.  It helped me be strong enough to help him and do what ever I needed.  His cancer was advanced and extensive but had not spread anywhere else.  Be strong and have hope because today all of his scans are cancer free.  It is a year from his last radiation treatment and although he is short of breath and needs oxygen when he moves around, he is doing well.

Prayer is a powerful thing.  I will keep your husband in my prayers.

Hi!   I remember the day I was dx with RCC. March 3, 1997. My life is over or so I thought. Then after the sugery the dr. said they got it all, no more kidney cancer. I just needed to get screened regulary. In 2005 he released me only needed my fam.dr. to do scans every 2 yrs. Great I made it I won over the Beast. It's June 07 I have a cough that just won't go away so I go to fam.dr. who orders x-ray of chest. there is something cloudy there so a CT is next. Dr.thinks it is pneumonia but ct confirms lymphnodes are enlarged, biopsey is needed. Biopsey reveals it's RCC that has met to nodes in lung also to adrenal gland and eventually to bone of left shoulder.Since that day I've been through il2  rad Sutent (3 rounds) and Zometa for bones. Said all that to say this, whatever the dx there are so much they can do. Find the best Drs. you can (my personal opinion is MD Anderson Cancer Hospital. They are the best in the country bar none. Get back up off your butt (figuratively) and start your fight against the beast.It will be a battle but you can't win if you don't fight  Take Care I'll keep you in my prayers     john

 Dear Helpus,

I do understand how your feeling right now myself. When my wife was diagnosed with Multiple Myeloma Cancer it was if I was not even on earth anymore. It is horrific to hear this about your loved one.

May I suggest that you ask your doctor about getting you on Citalopram?

It has helped me tremendously though the treatment & care giving times. 

Also, of course you know never leave approaching God for comfort. He will sustain you.

Being alone in all the rubble can be the worst thing for you but then again being around a lot of people that speak of just their personal tragedies can also great emotional struggles.

A confidential friend such as this site but someone in person is also important. 

I do understand and hope that I can help with my experiences and words.
