I went through my treatment in 2004. I did not need a transfusion, but my doctors told me that it was a possiblity. When a person gets chemo it not only gets rid of the cancer cells, but it gets rid of a lot of the good blood cells also. I knew of those getting treatment when I did who needed the transfusion to build up their red and white counts. I got shots to build up my white cells, but my blood did get so thin that it made my legs black and blue from leakage out of the veins. Not to worry, it didn't hurt and I didn't have any lasting problems. Keep positive thoughts and know that your medical professionals are there to get you through everything. Today, so many people are becoming survivors that we can all have a lot of hope. Best wishes to you and your Dad.
