Subject: Grandma passed away this morning...
Date: 04/01/2008
Hey guys.  I posted here a little while ago asking about the symptoms of the final stage of pancreatic cancer and what someone goes through, etc.  Well, I just thought I'd let everyone know that I just got a call from my dad not too long ago and my grandma passed away at the age of 83 years old this morning to pancreatic cancer.  :(  She was diagnosed 2 weeks ago and failed quite quickly every day.  I now know what it feels like to lose someone to this type of cancer and my heart goes out to everyone who has gone through this same thing.

So sorry for you loss.  This is a tough cancer to deal with, and sometimes can be very quick if it's diagnosed very late.

Yes, it's a very tough cancer to deal with especially if it's caught in the 'late' stages.  You see, my grandma was very active... always in a lot of musical groups playing the piano, etc... I just can't believe she's gone.  The reality of it is finally sinking in for me.   She was the grandma who I hung out with, who I watched hockey games with (how many grandma's watch hockey in the first place!)... she was the one where I'd walk over to her house after school and what not.  I was really close to her.  She survived breast cancer quite a few years ago but at the age of 83 and the stage the pancreatic cancer was in, there was nothing they could do except make her comfortable.

I am so sorry about your loss =(, I myself have gone through losing a loved one to Pancreatic Cancer. It is rough and tough, but hang in there. You seem like a strong person. If you ever need anything or anyone to talk to, let me know! I lost my father when I was twenty two years ago to Pancreatic Cancer. Sometimes it helps to go to people like a support group to just let it out.

Yeah.  You see I was at school this morning and my instructor goes, "Jennifer, why are you looking so serious?"  I was trying to wait until after the class to let the instructor know of what had happened, etc but I just complained to him and said it's been a long day and he looks at his watch and goes, "It's only 11am!" and then I said "well my grandma passed away yesterday" and the whole class did the "awww".  It's just tough.  The funeral won't be until next Saturday (April 12th) and I have no real way of saying goodbye until then, you know?

Yeah I understand. It is hard. Maybe you will find some way of saying good-bye to her. It was hard for me to keep straight face to my classes too and my instructors all wondered.

My hear goes out to you.  Lost Dad to PC on 01/04/08 and now, 3 months later I still have periods when I miss him so terribly that I just bawl.  It does get easier everyday.  Keep talking to her in your prayers and tell her how much you love her.  She will hear you wherever she may be.
