My mother has what the doctor called metastatic cancer, originating in her left lung. I was just looking on the site at some of the other treatments , Sutent and Nexavar, I dont really know much about this as she was just diagnosed this last week. Would any of these medicines be helpful for her ? does anyone know what the prices are on these drugs?  she is only 43. Her mother passed away at 41 from breast cancer and her father just last year from lung cancer at 65. Any information will be very helpful. Thank you  Josh

The Sutent is very expensive- I can tell you from recent experience with my Dad that we were told the Sutent was $8000 for 30 pills, I would guess that the Nexavar has similar pricing.  Some insurances will pay for it, and some will pay partially, the drug company for Sutent also has a program for people whose income qualify to help get it.

The Sutent is indicated for renal cell cancer (this is what my Dad had it for- he was only able to take it for about a week) and also for stomach cancer, but it is my understanding that they are also using it for other cancers that it hasn't been studied in so it might benefit  your Mom.

I hope that helps some.

Have you looked at alternative medicne.  Vitamic C IV and Laterial (b17) plus her diet is super importatn.  My dad just did a treatment in Mexico....not sure where you live but looking to all that.  Plus juicing veggies everyday!!!!

Lot of choices to consider

Josh,

I am really sorry to hear about your mom. She is very young. My Dad passed away from lung cancer 8 weeks after he was diagnosed. My husband was diagnosed July 14, 2007 with Metastatic Cancer in both lungs and liver. He was on chemo therapy for 4 treatments. Now, he is on a clinical study with Avastin every three weeks and Tarceva everyday. He has been on those for 4 months and he is doing really good. Did your mom smoke? My husband did and still does. He hasn't slowed down a bit. He coughs alot. When the Dr. found it, that Dr, told us he had 4-6 months to live. His ongologist says he could live 9-12 months on these treatments. We go every 2 months for scans. His next scans are April 10.

Where has the cancer spread with your mom? I had breast cancer 10 years ago and I took chemo and radiation. Then I was on Tamoxiphen  for 5 years. I have been cancer free for 10 years. I praise God each day.

My Dad had 9 siblings and all of them died with lung cancer. His Dad and great grandfather died with lung cancer. My sister came down with a lung diease not cancer but she is on oxygen.

Vanderbilt in Nashville is doing a study on my dad's side of the family to see if they had a gene that caused the cancer.

I will be praying for you and your mom. Please let me hear from you and your mom. If you go to the website Daily Strength, that has alot of people on there with all different kinds of cancer. They can give you some comfort as well.

My thoughts and prayers are with you all.

Susan

Hi, my husband has been a 10 year survivor of kidney cancer. He is now taking Sutent for his metastisis and it has helped him maintain for about 15 months now. I am so sorry to hear about your Mom,  I know you must be afraid. Pfizer makes Sutent I believe, and you can apply thur the drug maker and if you meet their guidelines on income they will furnish you the drug free. Otherwise Sutent is very expensive. The number to apply is 1-877-744-5675. May God bless you and comfort you and you Mother.

God bless you and your husband for his survival of over 10 years.  I am encouraged to hear that.  I am a one year survivor (right kidney removed) who has just been diagnosed with RCC on my right lung.  I just started taking Sutent-day 2, and is very optamistic about its effects.  Please continue to share your great progress as it give me hope for a brighter future.  Again, GOD bless you!!!
